Good things have an end

For the last five months or so we had this wonderful exchange student from Freiburg/Germany - an extraordinary addition to our family affairs. But all good things must end at some point, so she is flying back to her home country this week.
I only wish to emphasize that a cultural exchange of this nature is a wonderful opportunity to learn about other countries and places on this earth, foster understanding and acceptance. My wishful thinking would be, that also "grown-ups" were given such opportunities, not only teenagers. My first priority then would be to invite someone from the Middle East, preferably from a country that still adheres to mainly Muslim traditions. I would love to learn and also share my views. Then in exchange I perhaps could spend some time in (let's say anywhere in Arabia) and be part of learning the culture there right in location.
What an eye-opener that would be! Not only for me... but also for my "exchange adult" on this side of the ocean.

I am teaching a sculpture block at a College nearby right now - my focus is there- not on this blog. Please do not expect me posting, or reading your posts as frequently as I did in the past. For the next three weeks I am dedicated to enchant the dormant wisdom my student's already carry, kindle it - make it alive and accessible to them. ...

I bet you are a wonderful teacher Zee - well planned, concentrated on the moment ... and spontaneous too.

I agree about exchanges. My 16 year old daughter is doing a 4 month exchange to Spain next year (with a girl who will be here for 4 months first).

If every adult in the world every year got to choose a different culture/country and do a 2 week exchange with another - I can only imagine the understanding, warmth and bullshit cutting that would occur. I suspect the government, corporate and religious leaders would lose power at an unprecedented rate.

I started to send you this during our discussion a few posts back. Baraka (pen name) and I have become online friends and share many concerns.

She's lovely.

I'm thinking about an exchange program for my mrs. Zee :-)

Good idea, it should be enforced to us by a fundamental government..

An adult exchange program sounds like a wonderful idea. I think it would help diminish the ignorance towards other cultures and lifestyles, and help bring to light all the beauty that another culture experiences.

All the best to you in your teachings.
